“Unpaid” Pay Czar Got 6-figure Salary

Through the Freedom of Information Act, Judicial Watch has obtained copies of Treasury Department documents that show that President Obama’s Compensation Czar (“Pay Czar”), Kenneth Feinberg, received an annual GS-15 salary of $120,830, contrary to the claims that he was unpaid.

“Jill Farrell, a spokesman for Judicial Watch, said her organization had sought clarification unsuccessfully as neither Feinberg nor Treasury officials returned calls seeking comment. As a result, it could not be learned if Feinberg has been cashing the government paychecks, returning them to the Treasury Department, forwarding them to a charity, or otherwise not accepting them.”

Feinberg stepped down as Pay Czar on September 10th and the Wall Street Journal reports that he is now working full-time to manage BP’s $20 billion oil-spill damage fund. (He is the Founder and Managing Partner of Feinberg Rozen LLP, a law firm in Washington, D.C., and previously set pay rates for Obama’s $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) and headed up the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund.)

The Obama administration has since appointed as acting “Pay Czar” Patricia Geoghegan, who has worked with Feinberg for the past year. The “Pay Czar” is one of 44 such “czars” appointed by Obama that has not gone through any Senate confirmation process. According to Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton:

This is yet another reason why more of these Obama czars should go through the Senate confirmation process, rather than being simply installed into power by Obama. . . . We shouldnt have to pepper the Obama administration with FOIA requests to know what these czars are doing and how much theyre getting paid to do it. More information about Obamas czars should be part of the public record and be transparent to the American people.
